Between Freddo, beach bars and small cafes
Coffee is part of everyday life
Coffee is as much a part of everyday life in Greece as the sea, the sun, and long evenings spent outdoors. It's drunk in the morning on the way to work, at lunchtime in small cafes by the water, and later somewhere amidst conversations, street noise, and warm summer light.
Freddo on the beach
Especially in summer, cold coffees are a common sight on the streets. Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino can be found on café tables, in car holders, next to sun loungers on the beach, or on small tables in beach bars along the coast.
Amidst music, the sound of the sea and warm winds, people often sit right by the water with iced coffee and simply watch the day go by.
Small cafes and long conversations
Many people linger, chatting or enjoying the relaxed atmosphere that is almost ubiquitous in Greece. Coffee rarely seems rushed here. Even to-go cups often appear to be associated more with tranquility than haste.
Tradition and modernity
Traditional Greek coffee remains an integral part of the culture. Strong, slowly brewed, and often served in small kafenia, it exists quite naturally alongside modern coffee shops and cold freddos.
Perhaps that's precisely what defines Greek coffee culture.
Not just the coffee itself, but the peace and quiet, the conversations, and the little moments around it.
